The (un)forgettable Lewis Saynisch was Blossburg’s first doctor, an entrepreneur & a geologist! Whether treating the ails of coal miners or escorting geologist Charles Lyell in the Arbon mines, Dr. Saynisch made an impression on Blossburg’s residents. He came to PA to pursue his interests in practicing homeopathy & establishing the Arbon Coal Co. Let’s learn about his legacy together!
Phil Hesser is a historian & author, focused on Chesapeake Bay & its watershed, following a career with an international NGO & at universities on 2 continents. He is the author of many articles & several books.
Join us for this lead-in to the Blossburg Coal Festival, as we learn about Dr. Saynisch through the accounts of Charles Lyell & Prince Maximilian of Wied-Neuwied. What can we learn about the history of Blossburg through the doctor’s life? Join local historian Phil Hesser as he uncovers clues of a memorable individual whose life has been almost lost to memory.
Light refreshments will be provided by the Friends of the library.
